Myanmar Film Industry started with a movie name (Love & Liquor) Director U Ohn Maung in 1920. During World War II, the Industry was halted and so artistes turned to perform. A Union was formed for the movie and play artistes on 10 March 1946. This Union was formed by the initiation of General Aung San, and U Ohn Maung acted as the very first chairman. The Union is named “The association of Movie and Play Artists”.

The second organization is formed in 1964, during the regime of The Revolution Council Government and it was called “Organization Committee for Film Council”. From 1989 up to recent days, film makers have an association called "Movie Association" firstly acted by director U Khin Zaw.

First of all the industry was so active and energetic that there were about (100) movies shown each year. Later, because of ultimate difficulties, only about (20) movies could be shown each year. In early 2004, a picture name "The Mystery of Snow" is made up to international standard, by processing the film with a digital sound system and the whole process was done at CINE COLOUR LAB (BANGKOK) including developing and editing.

The movie was also English subtitled and was shown in various foreign countries. Following this path, (3) other movies were made up to international standard and so (4) movies had penetrated to the foreign market.

"The Mystery of Snow" achieved (7) academy awards in 2005. Nowadays DVD movies are also produced and they were also shown in the film venue.

To add the activities, commercials have become essential and film artistes are also seen in commercial programs and film directors also took part in the rapidly flowing current commercials.
